East Bay Origami Convention 2011Coming Saturday, November 19, 11AM - 5PM
Martin Luther King (MLK) Student Union Cal Students $8 $10 Early Registration / $12 at the DoorChildren under 6 are free The East Bay Origami Convention is an origami convention held at MLK Student Union in UC Berkeley. In contrast to PCOC (Pacific Coast Origami Convention), our convention is on a smaller scale, but will happen every year. Also, to be able to accommodate many origami enthusiasts in the area, admission costs are from $8-12. We are currently doing our best to create an amazing event for the origami community. This year will include workshops taught by Robert Lang, Linda Mihara, Meenakshi Mukerji, Bernie Peyton, Andrew Hudson, Glenn Sapaden, Deb Pun Discoe and Chris Itoh. "If a picture is worth a thousand words, how many more words is an origami worth?" Suppose you fold an animal. It's displayed with great folds, but what more can we understand about it? Is it trying to catch a fish? How does the animal feel? Does it have a family? What does it go through throughout the day? This year's theme will be Fold a Story. We encourage displays with models that depict much more than face value. How about fairly taless like the "Three Little Pigs" or "The Princess and the Frog"? Or maybe you like a particular scene from "Harry Potter" or "Twilight". Or do you take origami at face value... like it's only worth a "dollar"? We will have a gallery of models on display, as well as volunteers teaching how to fold several of models. Also, you're more than welcome to submit a small paragraph about your display if you like! Take a look at the video at the bottom for some ideas!!! SUBMITTING A MODEL If you're interested in submitting a model, models do not have to be original. As long as proper documentation is provided, such as the name and author of the model, and the folder's name, you may submit any model you like. It does not have to be part of the Theme. We are looking for sponsors for our organization, and in return, we will add your logo and information to our advertisement materials. We will accept both money and material donations. Please see "Donate" for more information. If you have any questions, please email calorigami@gmail.com |
